ITEM No.: 11 CD No.: 121 EMBOSSING: (f) Am Tel & Tel Co (b) [blotted out embossing] COLOR: Heavy amber swirled aqua. CONDITION: Minor surface pings on the upper rear skirt. About vnm. SUMMARY: A small number of these amber swirled tolls--probably comprising of most known in collections today--were picked in California roughly 40 years ago. The amber swirling is found in varying degrees of intensity. The most attractive are those with strong amber swirling throughout the body of the insulator, and then having bands of amber through patches of aqua in the dome. As you can clearly see from the photo, that description fits this one perfectly. This particular example is thought to be one of the best known for its contrasting colors and swirls, having been compared to many others over the last 30+ years. For even more character, there is an unusual sunken divot in the center of the dome, as if the dome glass was pulled in as the mandrel was removed (see View 3). These have produced a steady increase in value over the years, with recent sales even surpassing our current estimate range. ESTIMATED VALUE: $1,500 - $2,000 OPENING BID: $750 PRICE REALIZED: $1,210 |
