ITEM No.: 68 CD No.: 740 EMBOSSING: (base rim) Foster Brothers St. John C.E. 1858 COLOR: Dark olive amber. CONDITION: Three fingernail-size lower skirt flakes/chips and three other minor match head or smaller flake-like chips. SUMMARY: A very unusual raised band appears at the base of this early Canadian threadless. This band averages about 1/2" in height and extends out nearly 1/8". Traces of such a band can be found on other examples, but rarely do they stand out this dramatically. Another anomaly involves the embossing, with several of the letters/numerals appearing double struck (see View 2). These are prone to base chipping, which often removes some of the embossing. Many are found to be repaired. This fine example contains no repairs, nor embossing damage. The color could be considered olive amber blackglass by some, however it does pass light with a strong light source, as seen in View 2. If you enjoy insulators with peculiarities, this one is a perfect candidate. ESTIMATED VALUE: $450 - $600 OPENING BID: $300
