ITEM No.: 48  CD No.: 1131  EMBOSSING: (f upper) 15 California (f lower) Pat Apl’d For  COLOR: Rosy purple.  CONDITION: Typical factory grinding at the extrusion area, very minor surface annealing, otherwise a remarkable vnm+.  SUMMARY: These California “eggs” can be quite difficult to acquire lacking moderate to major damage, especially to the embossing that hangs right on the ‘mouth’s’ edge. Considering their application, having two large guy-wire cables wrapped tightly around them, plus the many years in service, then an often harsh removal, it’s amazing that any survived without major damage. These were cast in sets of two per mold. They were then detached after removal from the mold, leaving a sharp scarred area on one side of each egg. They were then taken to a grinder to remove the sharp, excess glass. This resulted in the ground button found on nearly all California eggs (lower center View 2). This is a superior example compared to most and the color is a nice rosy purple, with no smoky tones, plus it has a small green stringer floating through it.
